Golf in Malta
Golfing in Malta is very popular and is encouraged by the locals who are proud of their fine golf courses. In fact, the oldest course outside of the UK and one of the oldest Clubs exists is on Malta. The Royal Malta Golf Club is directly next door to the Marsa Sports Club. The club dates back to 1888. It is found just a few kilometres away from the airport and visitors are welcome to play on the TiffEagle grass year round.
Those who are interested in learning golf in Malta can also take advantage of the putting practice greens on the course, as well as pro-lessons which are offered by the club. On average it costs about 44 euros to play nine holes at the Royal Malta Golf Club and about 60 euros to play 18 holes. Junior golfers are allowed to golf in Malta at half price.
One of the original club members at its present location in 1904 was the former Duke of Edinburgh who was serving in the army on the island in that period
The course itself is reasonably flat and does not have many features, which can make it either a blessing in disguise for a beginning, or rather mildly challenging for an expert. It is about 5020 metres long and has a par 68. The upside to golf in Malta is that the weather is almost always accommodating, which means that you can golf at any time during the year.
Keep in mind if you intend to golf in Malta at the Royal Malta Golf Club that there is a strict dress code that will be enforced on anyone who walks onto the green. For those who do not have their own clubs on holiday, the club has a pro shop where a set of clubs can be hired for a low price and a changing room as well as an in-house bar and restaurant.
