Malta’s North Coast
Malta’s North Coast also referred to as Golden Bay since the two are next to each other is found about 50 minutes from the Malta airport by bus.
It is best for those who want to spend a holiday relaxing as it is not built up to accommodate tourists, outside of the hotels and resorts and is much less populated than other areas on Malta year round. In particular those who enjoy a holiday on Malta’s North Coast are those who want to sunbathe by a pool.
Since there are not a plethora of options when it comes to transportation most people explore Malta’s North Coast on foot, which is adequate since the area is small enough to navigate easily.
Nightlife in the area is found mostly in hotel bars and clubs, as well as in the resorts that are located on the North Coast.
Nearby in the Golden Bay area there is a large sandy beach that is set against large rocky cliffs, which can be a breathtaking and scenic way to relax and unwind on holiday.
Many people who stay on Malta’s North Coast head next door to the neighbouring city of Mellieha, where more tourist amenities are found such as a plethora of shopping and restaurants.
Historical sites within the borders of Malta’s North Coast include the Ghadira Nature Reserve which is a safeguarded location for bird breeding. Also popular is the town of Sweethaven also known by locals as Popeye Village, since it is the location where the film Popeye was filmed.
Some of the more popular hotels on Malta’s North Coast are the Radisson BLU Golden Sands Resort, the Riviera Resort & Spa, Ramla Bay, and the Paradise Bay Resort Hotel.
