St. George’s Bay

St. George’s Bay is located in the northern area of St. Julian’s, which is the main tourist sector of Malta.  It is about eight kilometres from Valletta, which means that the easiest way to get to St. George’s Bay is by bus at the main terminal in Valletta.

It is also located near the area of Paceville, which is considered to be the best place to go in Malta for nightlife, making St. George’s Bay one of the better locations for a quieter holiday, but easy access to the party life.

In fact, to get over to Paceville from St. George’s Bay all one needs to do is take the steps up from Centre, which is lined with cafes and bars.  Additionally, there is a bus route that runs in between St. George’s Bay and Paceville for added convenience.

St. George’s Bay has a sandy beach with a handful of boats that are usually harboured in the bay, and the resort area has a modern shopping centre as well as cinema complexes and a bowling alley.  Within the resort area there are also a fine sprinkling of restaurants and bars.

The focus of St. George’s Bay is not the beach, but instead the hotels and the boats that provide for plenty of water sport facilities for day time activities. Among the sports offered in St. George’s Bay are snorkelling, scuba diving, pedalos, windsurfing, and sailing.

Of course, there also is a golden sandy beach that is unusual for Malta, as most of the beaches have rock fronts.  Swimming is very popular at the beach as well, although there is no lifeguard on duty, like most of the beaches on Malta, so it is important that you supervise all children and friends while in the water.
