St. Paul’s Bay
St. Paul’s Bay is the most populated resort area during the summer in Malta, and is usually considered to be four different areas that are all included in the larger title. They are Qawra, Buggibba, Xemxija, and the Old Town.
Of these four locations The Old Town is still used for fishing and is the least saturated with tourists, while Buggibba and Qawra have the largest tourist populations and amenities such as shops, hotels, and bars. Both of the latter cities run in a strip along the coast line of St. Paul’s Bay extending out from Salina Bay.
Although the Qawra sector of St. Paul’s Bay is considered to be the more up market area of the town, both Qawra and Bugibba are popular among tourists who are looking for a holiday that will not break the budget.
One of the advantages of choosing to stay in the St. Paul’s Bay area is that unlike many of the other towns in Malta there is more than one hotel to choose to stay at, as well as a plethora of apartments and complexes making holiday accommodation more available than in other areas.
St. Paul’s Bay is found about nine kilometres from Valletta making it about a 45 minute bus ride over from the capital city, which is how most people arrive at St Paul’s. It is found between the bays of Mellieha and St. Julians providing for close-by amenities offered by those areas.
Since there are not any sandy beaches in St. Paul’s Bay most people choose to sunbath at the hotel pools, on large rocks, or head down the shoreline to Mellieha. Those looking for water sports can head over to Qawra where plenty of opportunities are to be found.
Nightlife in St. Paul’s Bay is found primarily in Bugibba where there are plenty of karaoke bars, cafes, and discotheques.
