San Anton
San Anton is a small suburb of the residential area of Attard in Malta. It includes many of the high end homes of government ministers that surround the Gardens and the Presidential Palace. Due to the fact that the community is based around the Parish church loud behaviour and a party atmosphere as well as a raucous nightlife are not supported in San Anton.
Instead, most of the tourists who come to the San Anton resort are looking for a calm area that offers a serene holiday experience. Within the area of San Anton there is actually only one hotel for tourists, a five star hotel which also leads to a sense of exclusiveness.
San Anton is found about five kilometres from Valletta; so many people choose to take the bus over to the small town, which takes approximately 15 minutes from the Valletta bus terminal outside of the city gates. It is a central town of Malta and is about two kilometres to the east of Rabat and about five kilometres to the west of Sliema.
Due to its close proximity to Sliema many people who holiday in the peaceful atmosphere of San Anton decide to travel to St. Julian’s Bay to experience the nightlife. Additionally, since there are not any beaches at San Anton travel to St. Paul’s Bay or Mellieha is needed in order to enjoy sunbathing or swimming.
During the daytime many people enjoy strolling through the San Anton Gardens and visiting the local churches in the town, which are architectural wonders in themselves. Tourists also enjoy visiting the Ta’Qali National Park, which is about one kilometre away from the city.
Although most of the evening activities in San Anton are limited to the hotel, there are a few restaurants for those who want to get out and about.
