Sliema

Sliema is one of the most modern resort areas in Malta and is the location that most tourists head to outside of St. Julian’s.  Within the borders of Sliema there are many rental apartments, hotels, bars, clubs, shops, and restaurants.

The town of Sliema is connected to a long costal spread that also includes St. Julian’s at the Northern edge.  It reaches across two peninsulas stretching into Valetta.

Although Sliema is a tourist town it follows the standards of the rest of Malta, which means that the locals are friendly, but certain party behaviour is not acceptable, such as drunken behaviour that is loud, and also topless sunbathing is not permitted.

In order to get to Sliema most people travel by boat or bus from Valetta.  Those who want to hire a car can also easily make the drive since it is just twenty minutes from Valetta and an additional hour from the international airport in Malta.

Those who choose to take the bus will need to catch one from the Valetta terminus, they run on a regular basis although they are more crowded during the summer months.  Visitors should be advised that any bus with a ‘6’ at the beginning of its number will take you into Sliema.

The ferry is another way to take the journey quickly as it is only a five minute trip from Valletta and will cost about 0.93euro.  The ferry runs every half and hour daily from 8am to 6pm.

Sliema has many excellent restaurants located on Howard Street, with an impressive sea front that has many cafes and bars that offer free wifi and plenty of activities.  The beaches are found below for those who want to bask in the sun while on holiday.

Additionally, Silema is the largest shopping town in Malta and is the home to many international high end shops and designer labels.
