Air Travel to Malta

There are a variety of chartered and scheduled flights that depart from the UK and take holiday travellers to Malta on a daily basis.  Each of these flights provides for the flexibility of a planned trip or for a last minute flight.   Regardless of which airline you travel to fly to Malta a visa is not required as a UK citizen, but a valid passport should be carried at all times along with a drivers license or identification card.

One of the most popular airlines that allow you to reach Malta by air is British Airways, which offers two direct flights from Manchester Airport and London Gatwick to the Malta Airport.  Additionally, you can also choose to fly with Fly Siesta airlines, Thomas Cook Flights, Brussels Airlines, Emirates, and KLM.  Depending on the budget you are working with, your best bet is probably to head online to compare quotes.

If you are able to take a direct flight from London, Malta by Air should only take about three hours, at which point you will need to handle arrangements to reach your hotel from the airport.  You have three choices at this point, to use an airport shuttle, taxi, or take a bus.

The busses run from the hub in the capital Valetta, which is a little under a kilometre away from the airport, and can be accessed from the airport.  Taxi service on the other hand provides you with convenience and you can expect to pay about EC$30.00 as a standard for transportation.

Additionally, there are many shuttle services that offer help getting to the Malta resorts such as a2btransfers and Zarb Coaches (also referred to by locals as Zarb Garage).  For shuttle services you can expect to pay about eight euro per passenger.  Generally speaking, driving in Malta is hard and in some locations is not legal for non-citizens so hiring a vehicle is not usually a wise option.
